Business background design

With the implementation of mobile number portability or MNP in 2008 in Malaysia, users can change mobile service providers without losing their current phone number. Now you can change the provider if you are looking for a wider selection of plans and better service quality at more affordable pricing.

All you need to do to switch telco is submitting a port-in request to your preferred new provider if you have no unpaid invoices or contracts with your existing provider. Here are a few benefits of changing a telecommunication provider.

  • Possibility of having better offers and lower prices

MNP’s competitive pressure may result in competitive mobile plans, particularly for calls and data. Mobile service providers could potentially provide more alluring deals and packages to retain existing customers and draw in new ones.

  • Have the freedom to use your existing number

MNP enables you to move to another telco without having to update your phone number, which can save you time and effort, particularly if that number is linked to a large number of contacts. This leads to high competition among mobile service providers in terms of retaining customers.

  • Improved customer service

Mobile service providers are under pressure to enhance their network coverage, customer service, and service quality, as it is simple to switch providers. In order to attract and keep consumers, telecom companies offer enticing post-paid or prepaid plans, with faster network speeds and improved customer service.

  • Improved Customer Experience

From a simple switching process to a better choice of plan and efficient customer support, a telco provides a better overall experience by giving high priority to customer satisfaction. Switching to a more helpful and responsive telecom could be an option if you are not satisfied with the customer service provided by your present telco.

  • Access to better services and advanced technologies

By moving to a different telecom, you will be able to take advantage of better data plans or newer technologies like 5G that are not available from your present mobile service provider. Additionally, you may discover that a new telecom provides better coverage in your area or better value for your money.

Some Easy Tips to Switch Telco

Before switching:

  1. The registered mobile owner is required to submit the switching request.  You have to ensure that the records with your present service provider match your identifying information given in MyTentera or passport number.
  2. You need to check for any billed and unbilled charges with the present provider and pay them. You should also make sure that your number is active by making an outgoing call.
  3. No recurring contracts, including device plans, rebates, or home broadband bundles, should be linked to your phone.  If so, you should get in touch with your present service provider to fix it before moving on.
  4. Moving all the numbers in the same order, you can transfer your family or account plan to a preferred provider.

While switching:

  1. Your current mobile service provider will send a confirmation SMS. Until then, you should not take the old SIM out.
  2. Wait for an SMS from your present provider confirming the port out.  Within the allotted time, respond to this SMS by following the guidelines.
  3. You can try to track the switching status by logging into the provider’s app.

After switching:

  1. You will be notified by SMS when the transition is successful.  Change to the new SIM after that.
  2. An alert to format the Access Point Name (APN) will be sent to you.  To finish the setup, tap ‘Accept’ and adhere to the instructions.

It is essential to note that until the switch is finished, your existing service will continue to operate.  Only after the transition is successful will you no longer be able to connect with your current mobile provider.
